The Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship is the first Czech member of the international organisation iSchools. The organisation pursues education and research within the information science field.
The organisation iSchools was established in the USA in 2005 where programs within the information science field (iField) needed to identify, clarify, and speak about the major issues, challenges, and driving questions at the nexus of information, technology, and society.
iSchools is a global organisation with leading members in the information science field, which recognises that expertise in all forms of information is required for all progress in science, business, education, and culture. The organisation has spread to both Europe and Asia.
Besides the Information Studies and Librarianship, the closest European members are the School of Library and Information Science at the Humboldt University in Berlin, School of Media and Information at the University of Siegen or Department of Information Studies at the University College London.
